PHONE UPWhat it is
What is Perchi?
Perchi is a palm-sized, silent desk companion with a 128x64 OLED face that doubles as a phone stand; rest your phone on it and a focus block starts while Perchi visibly knits, grows or builds; lift the phone and it pauses with a look.
A desk companion is a small, always-on device that sits on a desk and reacts to the person working there, rather than a robot that performs or a display that only shows numbers; Perchi is a desk companion whose reaction is tied to where your phone is.
- STEP 1
Plug in
USB-C, 5 V, no battery and no adapter needed: any USB-C port or phone charger works. Perchi wakes with a stretch and shows a pairing code on its face. Pair from a browser in about a minute; there is nothing to install.
- STEP 2
Rest your phone
A three-second confirmation ring, then a focus block starts: 25 minutes by default, any length from 5 to 120. Perchi knits a scarf, grows a sprout or builds a tower in five visible stages while the phone stays down.
- STEP 3
Lift your phone
Perchi pauses with a disappointed look and the arc blinks. Back within 60 seconds and it sighs and carries on. Longer, and the block ends as partial: every finished stage stays finished, and a block with nothing finished is simply cancelled, with no sad face.
Every rule of the loop, in order, is on how Phone Nap works. The two definitions behind it, what a desk companion is and what a Phone Nap is, each have a page of their own.
From plug-in to quiet hours
What does Perchi do all day?
Perchi runs focus blocks when your phone is down, celebrates real events when it is not, and keeps a calm clock the rest of the time. Eight things it does, with the numbers that govern each, and three modes it moves between on its own.
Phone Nap
Rest your phone on the back and a focus block starts after a three-second ring: 25 minutes by default, any length from 5 to 120 in 5-minute steps, with presets of 25, 45 and 90 that a head press cycles through. Lift the phone and the block pauses for a 60-second grace period (10 to 300 seconds in settings); nothing finished is ever lost. Hold the head for 3 seconds to run a block with no phone at all, or start one from the dashboard.
Moments
Real events from your accounts change the face first, then a small card with the value slides in beside it: a Razorpay or Stripe payment, a subscriber milestone, a green build, a red one, a new GitHub star, a calendar event five minutes out, a note from a friend through your public link. Up to three moments queue at once, and do-not-disturb (on by default) holds them until a running block ends.
Links and focus rooms
Link two Perchis and a tap on one makes the other blush and wave; a finished block sends a well done. A focus room holds up to four Perchis and shows each one's state as dots along the bottom of the screen (idle, in a block, done today) with a shared daily tally. Rooms share state only, never what an app shows.
Streaks and the wardrobe
A streak is consecutive days with at least one completed block, counted on the device in your time zone. Every 7-day run earns one freeze, held until you need it, so a single missed day does not break the chain. Every finished scarf, sprout and tower goes to the wardrobe in the dashboard with its date and block length, and any of them becomes a 1080x1350 share card in one tap.
The Perchi report
Daily and weekly report cards in the dashboard: focus minutes, blocks completed, longest block, items made, moments celebrated and your streak, next to a streak leaderboard of every Perchi in your workspace. Reports never carry timestamps finer than a minute.
Resting screen and clock mode
Between moments Perchi shows a calm clock, the face alone, or one installed app beside the face, which is how a creator keeps a live subscriber count in frame. After 10 quiet minutes it switches to clock mode: big digits, the date, your streak in the corner, dimmed to 30 percent.
Sleep and screen care
In your quiet hours Perchi closes its lids, dims, and lets one slow pixel wander across the screen. Any touch wakes it with a 30-second stretch. Outside sleep, static frames shift by one pixel every 60 seconds, and a brightness cap and a night window guard the OLED against burn-in.
Record my Perchi
One button in the dashboard renders the last 3 to 10 seconds of the face as a vertical 540x960 GIF with a public link that lasts 30 days, up to 20 clips a day per workspace. One tap to Reels, Shorts or X.
- Companion modeDefault
- Mood, idle animations and moments as cards beside the face.
- Clock modeAfter 10 quiet minutes
- Big digits, the date and your streak in the corner, dimmed to 30 percent.
- Sleep modeIn your quiet hours
- Closed lids, one slowly wandering pixel; any touch wakes it with a stretch.
Real wins
Which real events does it celebrate?
Perchi celebrates moments: real events from the apps you connect, from 60+ integrations that it shares with Perchi Matrix. The face changes mood first, then a card with the value slides in beside it for a few seconds. A sale looks like a sale; a failed build looks like a failed build.
A payment lands
Razorpay, Stripe, Gumroad, Ko-fi or Patreon: party, with silent confetti.
A subscriber milestone
A YouTube milestone or a new follower: love, with a blush.
A green build
A GitHub Actions run passed, or a new star landed: proud.
A red build
The workflow failed: worried, until the next green run.
A meeting in five minutes
A calendar event from your iCal feed: curious.
A note from a friend
Anyone with your public link can send a short message: a blush and a card.
Between moments, the resting screen can hold one app beside the face: a subscriber counter that celebrates each milestone instead of only showing a number. If you want the number big enough to read from across the room, that is Perchi Matrix; the two are compared on Perchi vs Perchi Matrix. During a block, do-not-disturb holds every moment until you are done; a critical alert still shows.
Ten moods, one face
What does the face look like?
Perchi's face is parametric: two eyes with pupils, lids, brows, squint, blush, mouth, tilt and scale, 13 parameters in all, drawn fresh every frame on a 128x64 OLED. Ten moods blend and animate instead of looping a sprite library, and the dashboard preview is the exact frame the device draws.
Neutral
Resting: it blinks, glances and breathes.
Happy
Eyes squint up into a smile.
Love
A pet on the head, a follower milestone, a tap from a linked Perchi.
Focus
A Phone Nap is running; the arc fills around the eyes.
Sleepy
Quiet hours, or a rain or snow effect from an app.
Worried
A red build, a siren or flash effect, or the factory-reset hold.
Party
A payment lands: the cha-ching, confetti and fireworks effects all map here.
Proud
A green build, a level-up or star-burst effect, a finished block.
Disappointed
The phone left mid-block. The arc blinks and it waits.
Curious
A plain notification, like a meeting five minutes out.
One reaction shows at a time, in a fixed order of priority (a Phone Nap first, then moments, then touch, then idle), each for 0.3 to 5 seconds, and every mood decays back to neutral after three minutes. Between reactions the face blinks, glances and breathes, one slow breath every four seconds. Nothing flashes above 3 Hz, every state has a non-motion cue (the arc, the dots, the cards), and a brightness cap and night dim keep it easy on the eyes at 2 am.
No buttons
How do you control it?
By touch. Three capacitive electrodes under the head read a tap, a double tap, a stroke, a swipe and three lengths of press, and a fourth electrode across the back plate is designed to sense your phone. Nine gestures cover everything from a boop to a factory reset.
| Gesture | What Perchi does | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Boop (a tap under 300 ms) | Blinks toward your finger. | The tap can also be bound in the dashboard: next or previous app, pause, dismiss a card, brightness, night mode, or send an event to an automation. |
| Double boop (two taps within 400 ms) | Skips to the next project type. | Outside a block only; inside one, the project is left alone. |
| Pet (stroke left to right) | Love for 2.5 seconds; it leans into your hand. | Two sweeps across the head within 600 ms. |
| Hold 3 seconds | Starts or stops a focus block. | The no-phone way to run a block. A head press cycles the 25, 45 and 90 minute presets. |
| Hold 5 seconds | Setup mode, with a surprised face. | Re-pair, or change Wi-Fi. |
| Hold 10 seconds | Factory reset. | After a worried confirmation face, so it never happens by accident. |
| Swipe left or right | A glance in that direction. | Only a glance: swipes do not change apps. |
| Rest a phone on the back | Starts a Phone Nap after a three-second confirmation ring. | The back plate is a capacitive electrode designed to sense a resting phone through the shell; final tuning happens after the hardware bench pass. |
| Sensitivity | A 0 to 100 slider in the dashboard, applied live. | 50 is the factory setting. Tune it for your shell and your phone without a reflash. |
Raw touch and phone-presence readings never leave the device. In the pairing wizard Perchi asks you to boop it three times and to rest and lift your phone once, so it learns your touch and your phone; both steps can be repeated from settings.
Left out on purpose
What is not in Perchi, and why?
Perchi has no battery, no speaker, no microphone, no camera, no motors, no AI and no subscription, and it does not lock your phone. Each one is a decision, not a gap: most items on this list are the top complaint in reviews of some desk companion or focus product.
No battery
Perchi is USB-C powered from the same hub as your monitor. The most-cited complaint in Eilik and EMO reviews is battery life, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours per charge; Perchi lives on the desk and is never on 3 percent.
No speaker
Silent by design: no speaker, no motors, no fan. Celebrations are confetti on the screen, so Perchi is safe in a library, an open office, a shared bedroom or a late-night call.
No microphone, no camera
Nothing in Perchi can hear or see you. Privacy is the hardware, not a setting. Raw touch and phone-presence readings never leave the device; only block events sync to your dashboard.
No AI
On purpose. Perchi has a parametric face with ten moods and reacts to three things: your touch, your phone and real events from your accounts. It never talks, never listens, and never sends a conversation to a cloud model.
No subscription
Your Perchi never needs a subscription to do what it does on the day you bought it. The dashboard, the app library, firmware updates and the local API are included with the device.
No app to install
The dashboard is a web app. Pair over Bluetooth from Chrome or Edge on a laptop, or Chrome on Android, with a 6-digit code on the face; iPhone, Safari and Firefox pair over Wi-Fi with an 8-character code. No app store, no account wall before the first smile.
It does not lock your phone
Perchi is not a lock box. The phone stays within reach; lifting it pauses the project and earns you the look. You choose every time, and the face makes the choice felt.
No motors
Nothing to wear out, nothing that whirs. The movement is in the face: blinks, glances, a four-second breath, a lean into a pet, and the scarf, sprout and tower that grow while you work.
Two honest limits
Perchi needs a desk and a USB-C port; it does not ride in a bag or work on the sofa. And it blocks nothing: if you need hard blocking, a lock box or an app blocker is the better tool. Perchi is for the desk, where the work is, and for making the choice visible.
Built to outlast us
The core loop (face, Phone Nap, clock, timers, cached apps) works offline. An authenticated local API and MQTT keep working on your LAN without our servers, and firmware updates are signed, with a safe mode that keeps the clock and can still update. How keys, pairing and updates work is on the security page.
Five desks
Who is Perchi for?
Perchi is for people who fight their phone for attention and want their desk to feel alive: students, people early in their careers, creators, couples in two cities and makers. Not for children under 8, and not for anyone who wants a robot that moves or talks.

The shells
One library, two devices
Which apps run on Perchi?
Every app in the MyPerchi library runs on Perchi with no per-app work: 70+ apps from 60+ integrations, the same store that drives Perchi Matrix. Each one renders through a face-and-card template, the face in the left 56 pixels and a big value on the right, with icons and a mark for thresholds.
Payments from Razorpay, Stripe, Gumroad, Ko-fi and Patreon; counts from YouTube and Twitch; stars, followers and Actions runs from GitHub; deploys from Vercel and Netlify; incidents from Sentry and UptimeRobot; an iCal calendar; Home Assistant; weather; and a generic webhook for anything else. Up to 32 apps per device, playlists, and a no-code builder with a native 128x64 canvas for your own. Any automation or webhook can set the mood directly, for one second up to an hour.
The resting screen with one app pinned beside the face: how a creator keeps a live count in frame between moments.
The body
Which shell does Perchi come in?
Perchi comes in the Classic shell at launch; Cat ears and Robot follow later. The shell is a printed PLA or PETG body over the same electronics in every version, with touch electrodes designed to work through 2 to 3 mm of plastic and a lip on the back for the phone.
The print files are to be published under an open licence, so a home printer or a local print shop can make a spare or a new skin; they are not published yet. Touch through a printed shell is designed for 2 to 3 mm and gets its final tuning after the hardware bench pass. What every shell has to respect, and what is planned, is on the shells page.
Two desks, two cities
What does Perchi for two add?
Perchi for two is a pair of Perchis that link to each other: a tap on one makes the other blush and wave, a finished focus block sends a well done, and both can share a focus room with up to four Perchis. ₹5,499 for the pair, ₹499 less than two Perchis at the current price.
Links and rooms share state only, never what an app shows, and the two can sit in one workspace or in two workspaces joined by a single-use invite. The pair has its own page with the friendship-lamp comparison, the box contents and its own questions.

Questions about Perchi
Short answers to what people ask before reserving: apps, Wi-Fi, subscriptions, batteries, cameras, AI, blocking and which phones fit. The wait, payment and price questions live on the pages that own them, linked below.
Does Perchi need an app?
No. You pair Perchi and change its settings from a web dashboard in any browser, and once it is set up it works without the dashboard open. There is no app to install and nothing to keep updated on your phone.
Does Perchi need Wi-Fi?
Not for focus. The face, Phone Nap, projects, streaks, the clock and sleep all run on the device with no network at all; blocks you finish offline are stored on Perchi and sent to the dashboard when it reconnects. Wi-Fi is needed for moments from your apps, Perchi links and focus rooms, the wardrobe and the reports.
Does Perchi need a subscription?
No. There is no subscription for anything Perchi does: the dashboard, every app, firmware updates and the local API are included. Perchi costs ₹2,999 once, inclusive of GST.
Does Perchi have a battery?
No. Perchi is powered over USB-C at 5 V from any phone charger or USB port and is meant to live on your desk plugged in. No battery means nothing to charge and nothing that wears out.
Does Perchi have a camera, microphone or speaker?
No. Perchi has none of the three. Celebrations are silent confetti on the screen, and the only thing Perchi senses is touch on its head and a phone resting on its back, through capacitive electrodes whose raw readings never leave the device.
Does Perchi have AI or talk to you?
No, on purpose. Perchi has a parametric face with ten moods that reacts to your touch, to your phone and to real events from the apps you connect, such as a payment landing or a build going green. It does not listen, speak or guess what you want.
Does Perchi lock or block my phone?
No. Perchi never touches your phone's software and blocks nothing. It makes the choice visible: the phone's resting place is the timer, and picking it up pauses a visible project rather than triggering a penalty.
Which phones work with Perchi?
Any phone that can rest on Perchi's back plate. Detection is capacitive and designed to work through the printed shell; the final tuning happens on the hardware bench pass, and a sensitivity slider in the dashboard lets you adjust it for your phone.
Which shell does Perchi ship in?
The Classic shell at launch. Cat ears and Robot shells follow later, and the print files for the shells are to be published under an open licence so you can print your own. The electronics are the same in every shell.
