Perchi vs Brick: a home for your phone or a lock on it?
Brick ($59, no battery, five emergency unbricks) is a lock: tap the phone on it and chosen apps are blocked until you tap again. Perchi (₹2,999) is a home: rest the phone on it and a focus block starts; lift it and Perchi pauses. Brick works anywhere and blocks hard; Perchi works at a desk and blocks nothing.

Who should buy which?
Choose Perchi if
- You want a gentle nudge and a place for the phone, not a lockout
- You want visible progress: a project that grows while the phone rests
- You want real-event reactions: a sale, a subscriber, a green build
- You want a phone stand that is useful even when you are not focusing
Choose Brick if
- You need hard blocking on the move, at dinner, in bed
- Screen Time and willpower have already failed you
- You want something that works in a pocket with no desk involved
What Brick does
Brick is a $59 NFC puck and a free app. You choose the apps to block, tap the phone on the puck to brick them, and tap again to unbrick; there are five emergency unbricks, no battery, and one Brick pairs with several phones. Its site claims 55,000+ five-star reviews and a survey of 3,500 users in which 95% felt less distracted. Fortune credited Brick and Bloom with turning physical phone blockers into a Gen Z status object in early 2026, and TechCrunch's June 2026 verdict was simply that if you want to cut your screen time, get a Brick.
The complaints are the flip side of the design: you must carry it, or you are locked out, or you cheat by leaving it at home; setup bugs; no timed auto-lock and no website blocking on Android; and it does nothing for the laptop or the desk.
What Perchi does
Perchi (₹2,999) is a silent desk companion and phone stand with a 128x64 OLED face. Rest your phone on it and a 25-minute focus block starts (5 to 120 minutes); Perchi knits, grows or builds beside its face while the phone stays down, pauses with a look if you lift it, and keeps every finished stage. It also reacts to real events from 60+ integrations. It never blocks, locks or touches your phone's software; it notices where the phone is and rewards it being down. The full loop is on How Phone Nap works.
Lock or home: friction against reward
Brick adds friction: to get the apps back you have to find the puck and tap. That works, and for many people it is the only thing that has. Perchi adds a reward: while the phone rests, something visible grows, and when you pick it up the face tells you it noticed. Neither is stronger in every situation. Friction wins when the pull is strongest and you are nowhere near a desk. Reward wins when you sit down to work for hours and want a reason to keep the phone where it is.
The phone stays within reach and visible on Perchi; you choose every time, and the face makes the choice felt. On Brick the choice is made once, at the tap. People who bounced off lockouts because being locked out felt like punishment tend to prefer Perchi; people who need to be locked out tend to prefer Brick.
Where each fails
Brick fails when it is not with you, or when you unbrick in a weak moment and never brick again. Perchi fails when you are not at your desk, and it cannot stop you from picking the phone up: a determined scroller can lift the phone, take the disappointed look and carry on. Perchi is for people who want to be reminded, not restrained.
India availability
Brick has an Amazon.in listing, but its price could not be read on 2026-09-18 and Brick's own store ships from the US. Perchi is sold direct in India at ₹2,999 including GST, with a 12-month warranty serviced in India, 10-day dead-on-arrival replacement and delivery by Shiprocket; see Pricing and Shipping.
When Perchi is not the right fit
If you need hard mode, buy Brick or a lock box; Perchi will never stop you opening an app. If most of your phone time happens away from a desk, Perchi cannot help there. Perchi is the right fit when the desk is where the work happens and the phone's presence is the problem; it is the wrong fit when the phone must be made unusable.
Questions about Perchi vs Brick
Is Brick worth it?
Yes, for people who need a lock: at $59 with no subscription and no battery it is the simplest hard block available, and its users report large drops in screen time. It does nothing for the laptop or the desk, and it only works when it is with you.
Does Brick work in India?
Technically yes: the app runs on recent iOS and on Android 12 or newer anywhere. Buying it is the harder part: an Amazon.in listing exists but its price could not be read on 2026-09-18, and Brick's own store ships from the US.
Does Brick block Instagram, and can Perchi?
Brick blocks any app you choose, Instagram included, until you tap the puck again. Perchi blocks nothing: it does not touch your phone's software. It rewards the phone being face-down on the stand and gives you a look when you lift it.
Can I use Brick and Perchi together?
Yes. Brick works on the phone's software and Perchi on the phone's location, so you can brick your apps and rest the bricked phone on Perchi to start a focus block. Brick for the pocket, Perchi for the desk.
What does Perchi do that Brick cannot?
Show progress while the phone rests (a scarf, sprout or tower in five stages), keep streaks and report cards, celebrate real events from your apps (a sale, a subscriber, a green build), link to a second Perchi, and hold your phone as a stand when you are not focusing.
Which is cheaper, Brick or Perchi?
In India, Perchi: ₹2,999 including GST, sold direct with a local warranty, against a Brick that must be imported. In the US, Brick at $59; Perchi's international price is confirmed when the global batch opens.
