Perchi vs Loona DeskMate: your phone as the robot, or your phone on the robot
Loona DeskMate (KEYi Tech, $299, needs an iPhone 12 or newer) docks your phone and uses its screen and camera as the robot's face and eyes, with Qi2 charging and MCP integrations. Perchi (₹2,999) does the opposite: your phone rests on it and a focus block starts. One makes the phone the star; the other makes it rest.

What Loona DeskMate is
Loona DeskMate, from KEYi Tech (the makers of the Loona pet robot), launched at CES 2026 and raised $721,816 from 3,166 backers on Kickstarter in April 2026, with shipping from July. It is a three-axis motorised dock: your iPhone (12 or newer, with MagSafe) snaps on and becomes the robot's face, camera and AI brain. It charges the phone over Qi2 at 15 W, doubles as a 165 W or 180 W GaN USB-C power hub, watches your screen to act as a co-worker, and connects to Gmail, Slack, Google Calendar, Notion and OneDrive through MCP. The maker's price guide lists it at $299 with no monthly fee.
It is a clever product and the closest thing on the market to Perchi's idea of a useful desk companion that involves your phone. The dependency is the point and the limit: without an iPhone 12 or newer there is no face and no brain, and it does not exist for Android.
What Perchi is
Perchi (₹2,999 including GST) is a silent desk companion and phone stand with its own 128x64 OLED face. Any phone rests on its back, face down, and a focus block starts; Perchi knits, grows or builds beside its face while the phone stays down and pauses with a look when you lift it. It reacts to real events from 60+ integrations, has no camera, microphone, motors or AI, and works with any phone or none, since a 3-second head press starts a block too. See How Phone Nap works.
Phone as face against phone at rest
DeskMate keeps the phone lit, upright and in use; that is where its face, its camera and its AI live. Perchi keeps the phone dark, face down and out of reach of your thumb; that is where its value lives. If your problem is that you want more from your phone at the desk, DeskMate is the better idea. If your problem is that the phone already gets too much of you, Perchi is.
There is also a privacy split. DeskMate's features use the phone's camera to watch the screen and the room. Perchi has no sensors that can see or hear you; the back electrode notices a phone resting on it and nothing else.
Price in India
DeskMate is $299 before an iPhone 12 or newer, and it is import only; no Indian listing was found on 2026-09-18, so duty, IGST and a broker fee apply. Perchi is ₹2,999 including GST, sold direct in India with a 12-month warranty serviced in India; see Pricing. Note that LOOI, another phone-as-face desk robot from a different company (Tangible Future), is not the same product as Loona DeskMate.
When Perchi is not the right fit
If you want your phone to do more at the desk, with a moving body, a camera and AI, DeskMate is the product and Perchi is the opposite of it. If you want your phone charged while you work, Perchi does not charge phones; it is a stand with a USB-C input for itself. Perchi is the right fit when the phone is the problem, not the platform.
Questions about Perchi vs Loona DeskMate
Is Loona DeskMate worth it?
For an iPhone owner who wants a moving, screen-aware co-worker with Qi2 charging and MCP integrations, maybe, at $299 plus the phone. It needs an iPhone 12 or newer to do anything, so the phone stays at the centre of your desk, which is the opposite of what Perchi is for.
Does Loona DeskMate work with Android?
No. DeskMate needs an iPhone 12 or newer with MagSafe; the iPhone is its face, camera and brain, and the app is iOS only. Perchi works with any phone that rests on it, and with no phone at all through a 3-second head press.
Does Loona DeskMate have a camera?
It uses the iPhone's camera and microphone for its screen-aware and AI features. Perchi has no camera and no microphone; it detects only whether a phone is resting on it.
Is Loona DeskMate sold in India?
Import only. No Indian listing was found on 2026-09-18; a self-import adds duty, IGST and a broker fee to the $299 price. Perchi is sold direct in India at ₹2,999 including GST with a warranty serviced here.
Is LOOI the same as Loona DeskMate?
No. LOOI is a phone-as-face desk robot from Tangible Future; Loona DeskMate is from KEYi Tech, the makers of the Loona pet robot. They share the idea of docking a phone but are different products from different companies.
Does Loona DeskMate charge my phone, and does Perchi?
DeskMate does: Qi2 wireless charging at 15 W and a GaN USB-C hub for your laptop. Perchi does not charge the phone; it is a stand with its own USB-C input, and the phone rests on it unpowered while a focus block runs.
