What EMO is

EMO, from Living.AI, is the category leader in AI desk pets: an autonomous robot that walks around the desk, avoids edges, dances, recognises up to ten faces, takes voice commands ("Hey Emo"), plays music and answers questions through ChatGPT in the cloud. It gets firmware updates over the air and can control smart-home devices through its app. Direct prices are $279 for EMO and $369 for EMO Go Home, which adds a self-docking station.

Reviewers call it the most conversational of the desk-bound robots and praise its expressiveness. The consistent complaints are a crash-prone companion app and slow or absent support, about two hours of battery so it effectively lives on its charger, English-only voice that degrades in noisy rooms or with strong accents, and conversations that break on multi-step questions. robotreviewdesk's synthesis score is 6.8 out of 10.

What Perchi is

Perchi is a palm-sized, silent desk companion with a 128x64 OLED face that doubles as a phone stand, at ₹2,999 including GST. Rest your phone on it and a focus block starts; Perchi knits, grows or builds beside its face while the phone stays down and pauses with a look when you lift it. It reacts to real events from 60+ integrations, celebrates with silent confetti, keeps streaks with a weekly freeze and writes daily and weekly report cards. The loop is explained on How Phone Nap works.

It does not walk, talk or listen. There is no microphone, no camera, no AI, no battery and no speaker, on purpose. Perchi is a colleague that notices what you did, not a pet that needs looking after.

Privacy and cloud

EMO's features need a camera and a microphone, and its conversations go to ChatGPT through Living.AI's cloud. That is not a flaw; it is how a talking robot works. It does mean a camera and a microphone live on your desk and most of what EMO does stops when the cloud does.

Perchi has no sensors that can hear or see you. Raw touch and phone-presence readings never leave the device; only block events (start, pause, resume, complete, minutes, project kind) sync to your workspace so the dashboard can show streaks. Rooms and links share presence state only, never content. Security lists exactly what leaves the device.

Battery and app

EMO runs about two hours on a charge per owner reports, some say less, and returns to its skateboard charger between outings; EMO Go Home docks itself. Setup and most features go through the app that reviewers complain about. Perchi has no battery and no app: it stays plugged in over USB-C, pairs from a browser in about a minute, and its dashboard is a web page.

India price reality

EMO reaches India two ways. xboom.in listed EMO at ₹49,900 (backorder) and EMO Go Home at ₹76,799 with a GST invoice and an Indian warranty on 2026-08-25; Amazon.in importer listings tracked EMO Go Home at ₹1,16,999 to ₹1,19,000 in August and September 2026. Self-importing adds duty, IGST and a broker fee. Perchi is ₹2,999 including GST, sold direct with a 12-month warranty serviced in India; see Pricing.

When Perchi is not the right fit

If you want conversation or movement, buy EMO; Perchi does neither and never will by design. If you want a pet to look after, Perchi is not needy: it does not ask to be charged, fed or played with. If you want a companion for a child, note that Perchi is designed for students, remote workers and creators and is not for children under 8.

Questions about Perchi vs EMO

Does EMO need Wi-Fi?

Yes, for most features. Voice answers go through ChatGPT in Living.AI's cloud, the app needs a connection, and only a subset of voice commands is marked offline-capable in the manual. Perchi's core loop runs on the device without Wi-Fi.

Does EMO need a subscription?

None is advertised. EMO is a one-time purchase with optional paid clothes and accessories. Perchi has no subscription either; the dashboard, apps and firmware updates are included.

Does EMO robot spy on you, and does it have a camera?

EMO has a camera and a microphone because its features need them: face recognition, voice commands and cloud conversation. Whether that counts as spying is a matter of trust in the maker. Perchi has neither a camera nor a microphone, so the question does not arise.

Is EMO available in India?

Through resellers such as xboom.in at ₹49,900 for EMO and ₹76,799 for EMO Go Home with a GST invoice and warranty, and through importers on Amazon.in at up to ₹1,16,999. There is no official Living.AI channel in India.

How long does EMO's battery last?

About two hours of active use per owner reports, with some owners reporting 30 minutes; it recharges on its wireless skateboard, and EMO Go Home docks itself. Perchi has no battery and is always on over USB-C.

Is Perchi for kids?

No. Perchi is designed for students, remote workers and creators, not for children under 8. It has no games, no voice and no movement; its job is to help the person at the desk put the phone down and see their wins.
