What does the Desk pet app show?
A pixel pet that cheers your sales, stars and deploys and sulks when things break, levelling up as your wins add up.
The pet is an 8x8 sprite with three moods drawn beside its level: happy, idle and sad. It reads the events the other apps on the same display record and keeps a mood score from 0 to 100: a sale, order or payment, a tip, a new star or follower, a successful deploy, a fixed build, a stream going live or an agent finishing raises the mood and earns experience; a failed deploy, a broken build, a monitor going down or a new error lowers it.
Every hour the mood drifts 5 points back toward idle, so yesterday's good news fades and today's has to earn it again. Experience adds up for good: level 2 at 100 points, level 3 at 300, level 4 at 600, up to level 99, and every new level plays a level-up effect with LEVEL N. A pledge is worth 25 points, a front-page Hacker News story 30, a star 10.
The pet calls no provider and needs no account; it only makes sense on a display that also runs apps with events, such as Stripe sales today, GitHub stars, Vercel deploys or UptimeRobot status. On Perchi there is no pet app because Perchi is the pet: the face reacts to the same events as moments.

How fast does Desk pet update?
Event-driven: the pet updates the moment another app on the display records an event, and once an hour its mood decays 5 points toward idle even when nothing happens. No provider is called.
Style
How does Desk pet look on the matrix?
The custom template draws the 8x8 pet sprite for the current mood with L and the level beside it in the small font; the status template shows the animated pet icon with the mood as text. Each new level plays the level-up effect with LEVEL N.

What makes the desk pet happy or sad?
Events from the other apps on the same display. A sale, order, payment or tip, a new star or follower, a successful deploy, a fixed build, a stream going live or an AI agent finishing raise the mood by 8 points each; a failed deploy, a broken build, a monitor going down or a new error lower it. Above 67 the pet is happy, at 33 or below it is sad.
How does the desk pet level up?
Good news earns experience that never decays: 15 points for a sale, 20 for a tip, 25 for a pledge, 10 for a star or follower, 30 for a front-page Hacker News story. Level 2 comes at 100 points, level 3 at 300, level 4 at 600 and so on up to level 99, each with a level-up effect and LEVEL N on the display.
Does the desk pet need an account or a key?
No. It calls no provider at all; it only reads the events the other apps on its display have already recorded. It needs those apps installed, or it has nothing to react to.
Is the desk pet a Tamagotchi I have to feed?
No. There is nothing to feed and it cannot die; its mood simply drifts 5 points an hour back toward idle when nothing happens, and lifts again with the next real win. It is a mood meter for your work with a face, not a chore.
Does the desk pet run on Perchi?
No, and it does not need to: Perchi is the pet. Its OLED face reacts to the same events as moments, with ten moods, a tap to boop and a focus block that grows a scarf, sprout or tower. The Desk pet app is the Perchi Matrix version of that idea.
What does the pet do when nothing happens?
It settles into idle: the mood drifts 5 points an hour toward the middle, the sprite switches to its idle pose, and the level stays where your wins left it.
