Sizes and power
Perchi Matrix sizes: 24x8 today, 32x8, 64x16 and 64x32 later
Perchi Matrix is built from chained 8x8 WS2812B panels driven by one ESP32-S3. The 24x8 size (192 LEDs) is the only one you can reserve today; 32x8, 64x16 and 64x32 run the same Perchi OS firmware and open later on the waitlist. Bigger sizes need bigger 5 V supplies, from 3 A to 20 A.
Today
Which size can I reserve today?
Only the 24x8. It has 3 panels and 192 LEDs, costs ₹4,499 incl. GST, and is what every system screen and app template is designed at first. The three larger sizes run the same firmware image today and open later on the waitlist, each at its own price; the size is written into the unit at the factory and cannot be changed afterwards.
No payment today. We email a checkout link when your unit is bench-tested; current estimated wait 2 to 3 weeks from the day you reserve. Cancel any time before then.
24x8
Reserving now- Panels
- 3 (3 x 1)
- LEDs
- 192
- Refresh
- 60 frames per second
- Supply
- 5 V, 3 A
The launch size. Every system screen and app template is designed at 24x8 first: 4 characters in the normal font, 6 digits in the tiny font.
32x8
Opens later on the waitlist- Panels
- 4 (4 x 1)
- LEDs
- 256
- Refresh
- 60 frames per second
- Supply
- 5 V, 4 A
The native AWTRIX geometry. AWTRIX 3 layouts sent to the local API show in full here; on 24x8 they are fitted to the narrower canvas.
64x16
Opens later on the waitlist- Panels
- 16 (8 x 2)
- LEDs
- 1,024
- Refresh
- about 32 frames per second
- Supply
- 5 V, 10 A
From 16 pixels tall the templates switch to 16x16 icons and 7x16 digits, so counters get bigger, not just wider.
64x32
Opens later on the waitlist- Panels
- 32 (8 x 4)
- LEDs
- 2,048
- Refresh
- about 16 frames per second
- Supply
- 5 V, 20 A
The largest canvas the platform renders. Two rows of apps, charts and 16-frame bitmaps fit; the frame takes longer than a 60 fps tick, so motion is smooth but slower.
Power
What does each size need for power?
Plan on 60 mA per LED at full white, then remember that every colour value on Perchi Matrix is scaled by the factory brightness cap of 32/255 before it reaches the wire, so the cap is a hard ceiling on current, not a default. The 24x8 draws about 1.5 A worst case and about 0.2 A when dark; a 5 V 3 A supply leaves margin.
| Size | Panels | LEDs | Full white, no cap | Worst case at cap 32/255 | Dark, idle | Suggested supply |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 24x8 | 3 (3 x 1) | 192 | 11.5 A | about 1.5 A | about 0.2 A | 5 V, 3 A |
| 32x8 | 4 (4 x 1) | 256 | 15.4 A | about 1.9 A | about 0.26 A | 5 V, 4 A |
| 64x16 | 16 (8 x 2) | 1,024 | 61.4 A | about 7.7 A | about 1 A | 5 V, 10 A |
| 64x32 | 32 (8 x 4) | 2,048 | 122.9 A | about 15.4 A | about 2 A | 5 V, 20 A |
Why
Why is the size set at the factory?
Because the panel count, the canvas and the wiring are data written into a dedicated flash partition when a Perchi Matrix is flashed, and the enclosure and power lead are made for that count. Every size runs the same firmware image, so a display never needs a rebuild, but a unit stays the size it left the bench as.
One wire, more LEDs
The whole matrix hangs off a single data line. A bigger canvas means more LEDs shifted out on the same wire each frame, which is why the 24x8 and 32x8 run at 60 frames per second while 64x16 and 64x32 settle at about 32 and 16: the frame itself takes longer than one 60 fps tick.
Bigger canvases get bigger type
App templates are laid out at 24x8 first and wider canvases take the extra width. From 16 pixels tall the compiler switches to 16x16 icons and 7x16 digits, so a 64x16 counter is larger, not just wider, and a 64x32 can show two rows of apps or a chart.
32x8 is the AWTRIX shape
The AWTRIX 3 local API assumes a 32x8 layout. A 24x8 fits those layouts to its narrower canvas, so long custom apps scroll or shrink; the 32x8 shows them in full. If you are moving Home Assistant automations from a Ulanzi TC001, that is the size to wait for. Read what an AWTRIX-compatible display is.
Side by side
How do the sizes look with the same apps?
The same GitHub stars app on 24x8, 32x8 and 64x16, and three apps sharing a 64x32, drawn with the firmware font this site uses for its LED renders. On 24x8 the count is shortened to fit next to the icon; from 32x8 the full number fits; from 64x16 the real display also switches to taller digits, which these previews do not reproduce.
Every size runs the same 72-app library and the same developer surface; the no-code builder keeps separate layouts for 32x8, 64x16 and 64x32 so one app can look right on all of them. Browse the apps or the full spec sheet.
Waitlist
Joining the waitlist for a larger size
Reserve through the same form as the 24x8 and name the size you want in the notes field, or email hello@myperchi.com. Joining commits you to nothing: nothing is charged, there is no queue to lose, and you hear from us by email when 32x8, 64x16, 64x32 open, each with its price.
The current estimated wait for the 24x8, 2 to 3 weeks from the day you reserve, is explained on the delivery page; every price is on pricing.
Questions about sizes
Can I chain my own panels onto a Perchi Matrix?
Not on a unit you buy from us. The panel count, canvas and wiring are written into a factory partition when the unit is flashed, and the enclosure and power lead are sized for that count. A 24x8 that gains a fourth panel would still draw a 24-pixel canvas.
Does the 64x32 need a special adapter?
Yes: a 5 V supply rated 20 A or more, against 3 A for the 24x8. At the default 32/255 brightness cap the 64x32 draws about 15.4 A worst case and about 2 A when dark. Connector and adapter details for every size are confirmed after the hardware bench pass.
Will the waitlist sizes cost more?
Yes. Each size has more panels, a bigger enclosure and a bigger supply, so 32x8, 64x16 and 64x32 will be priced above the 24x8. Prices are announced when each size opens; joining the waitlist commits you to nothing.
Do AWTRIX 32x8 layouts fit on 24x8?
They are fitted to the narrower canvas, so long custom apps scroll or shrink and some pixel-exact drawings lose their right edge. The 32x8 is the native AWTRIX geometry and shows them in full, which is why makers with existing AWTRIX 3 automations may prefer to wait for it.
Is the 24x8 bright enough for a desk?
Yes. The factory cap of 32/255 is set for a desk at arm's length and keeps the whole panel under about 1.5 A; a schedule dims it in the evening, a night window adds a warm or red tint, and quiet hours turn it off while you sleep.
How do I join the waitlist for a larger size?
Reserve through the same form and name the size you want in the notes field, or email hello@myperchi.com; you hear from us by email when that size opens, with its price, and nothing is charged before then.
Everything else about the display, from the app library to the local API, is on the Perchi Matrix page.
