Developers app
GitHub stars on your desk
The GitHub stars app shows the star count of any public repository on Perchi Matrix, refreshed every 5 minutes, with a star burst each time the count grows; forks, watchers and open issues are available as other layouts. You need no token, only the repository name as owner/name. On Perchi a new star is a proud moment.

What it shows
What does the GitHub stars app show?
Stars, forks and watchers of any public repository, refreshed every 5 minutes, with a star burst when the count grows.
Type a repository as owner/name and the star count appears in gold beside a star icon, refreshed every 5 minutes; forks, watchers and open issues (which on GitHub include pull requests) are outputs of the same app for other layouts. One shared source per repository serves every workspace, and ETag revalidation makes an unchanged poll free, so the display never runs into GitHub's rate limit.
When the count grows, the app emits a star.gained event with the delta and plays a star burst with +N STAR; milestones every 100 or at 1,000 and 10,000 use any of the 14 effects. Because the poll is every 5 minutes, several stars in that window arrive as one +N.
If you want each star the second it lands, install the GitHub live stars app instead: the MyPerchi GitHub App on your repository sends every star within seconds and re-checks the total every 30 minutes. It is in beta. Pull-request notifications are not a built-in app; the developers page has a recipe that filters the GitHub webhook preset for merged pull requests.
How it connects
What do you need to connect GitHub stars?
No account: a public handle. Nothing: the repository as owner/name. Public repositories only.
No sign-in, no key, no account with the provider. It is one of the 37 apps in the no-account list, so it works from the minute the display is paired.
Speed
How fast does GitHub stars update?
Polled every 5 minutes (2 minutes at the fastest) with ETag revalidation, so an unchanged repository costs nothing. Stale after 30 minutes without a response, expired after 24 hours. For star-by-star delivery within seconds, the GitHub live stars app (beta) uses the MyPerchi GitHub App.
Style
How does GitHub stars look on the matrix?
A gold star icon beside the count is the default, with a FORKS label layout as the alternative. Each increase plays a star burst with +N STAR; milestones every 100 or at 1,000 and 10,000, thresholds that change the colour, and count-up animation are in the style panel.
The preview at the top of this page is the default GitHub stars scene on a 24x8 Perchi Matrix, reading 2K. The apps page explains how freshness badges work, and the Perchi Matrix page lists every font, colour and effect in the style panel.
On Perchi
What does Perchi do with GitHub stars?
A new star is a proud moment on Perchi: the face lifts, then the total slides in beside it. Between moments, set the resting screen to this app and the star count sits next to the face.
A moment is Perchi's reaction to a real event: the face changes mood first, then a small card with the value slides in beside it and the face returns. Moments queue three deep, never interrupt a Phone Nap stage change, and wait silently during a block when do-not-disturb is on (the default). See which real events Perchi celebrates and how Phone Nap works.

Questions about GitHub stars
Specific to this app. The general questions (do I need an app, does it work offline, what does a reservation cost) live on the pages that own them.
How can I show my GitHub stars on my desk?
Install the GitHub stars app on Perchi Matrix, type the repository as owner/name and the star count appears within a minute, refreshed every 5 minutes with a star burst on each increase. Pull-request notifications are not a built-in app; the developers page shows a webhook recipe for merged pull requests.
Does the GitHub stars app need a personal access token?
No. It reads the public repository data through MyPerchi's own GitHub credential, so you only type owner/name. Nothing from your GitHub account is stored.
Does it show private repositories?
No. Only public repositories, because the shared credential has no access to yours. Push the number yourself with the Live value app or a JSON counter if you need a private repository on the display.
How fast does a new star show up?
Within 5 minutes with this app, which polls GitHub with ETag revalidation. Within seconds with the GitHub live stars app, which installs the MyPerchi GitHub App on your repository and is in beta.
Can it show forks or open issues instead?
Yes. Forks, watchers and open issues (including pull requests) are outputs of the same app, so pick the forks layout or build a custom layout with two of the numbers.
Can Perchi celebrate a new GitHub star?
Yes. The star.gained event is a moment on Perchi: a proud face, then the new total on the card beside it. Set the resting screen to this app and the star count lives next to Perchi's face between moments.
