What Smiirl is
Smiirl, from Paris, has made the mechanical split-flap follower counter since about 2013: a linden plywood and polycarbonate box that flips its digits every time the number changes. Each unit tracks one platform: Instagram (Business accounts only), Facebook pages or TikTok, at $399 for five digits or $559 for seven, excluding tax; a Custom Counter that takes a JSON feed, Zapier, Google Reviews or Square costs $459 or $629, and Shopify sells a subsidised Shopify Counter at $99 and $149 that showed a notify-me-when-in-stock button on 2026-09-18. Refresh is every 6 seconds by default, there is no subscription, and the warranty is two years with 100-day returns.
It is shop signage and very good at it: 40,000 businesses, about 2,899 Trustpilot reviews and a claim that 89% of businesses see a follower uplift in the first month. It is also 42 to 56 cm long, 2.1 to 2.7 kg, audible, and one platform per box; YouTube needs a developer and Smiirl's help centre says it will not support the implementation.
What Perchi Matrix is
Perchi Matrix (₹4,499 including GST) is a desk-sized LED display with 70+ apps that put every number you care about in one box: YouTube subscribers (rounded by YouTube above 1,000 and marked as such), Twitch, Kick, Bluesky, Mastodon, Discord, GitHub, Patreon, Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee, plus Stripe, Razorpay, Shopify and Gumroad sales with a celebration per event. Smiirl is built for the window: big enough to read from the pavement, loud enough to hear the flip, one number that means one thing. Perchi Matrix is built for the desk behind a camera: small enough to sit in frame, silent so it never bleeds into audio, and able to rotate through platforms and sales in a playlist or celebrate a milestone with confetti. A creator with YouTube, Twitch and a Ko-fi page needs three Smiirl boxes and a developer; they need one Perchi Matrix.
Platforms and refresh side by side
Smiirl polls every 6 seconds, which is faster than Perchi Matrix polls YouTube (every 30 minutes, the public count rounded above 1,000 by YouTube itself). Perchi Matrix is faster where it matters to sellers: Razorpay, Stripe, Ko-fi and GitHub events arrive over webhooks and appear the instant they fire, with a cha-ching animation. Every Instagram counter on the market, Smiirl and Perchi Matrix included, needs a Business or Creator account because Meta's Graph API only exposes follower counts for those; on Perchi Matrix the Instagram app also waits on Meta's review.

Questions about Perchi Matrix vs Smiirl
Does a Smiirl need a subscription?
No. Smiirl says connecting a counter is free with no subscription or additional fees, and the counter is a one-time purchase. Perchi Matrix has no subscription either.
Does a Smiirl Instagram counter need a Business account?
Yes: Smiirl states its Instagram Counter connects only to Instagram Business accounts, because Meta's Graph API exposes follower counts only for professional accounts. The same rule applies to every device, Perchi Matrix included.
Can Smiirl show YouTube?
Only through a Custom Counter and a developer. Smiirl's help centre says you will need a developer to create a JSON URL and that Smiirl will not support the implementation. Perchi Matrix has a native YouTube subscribers app that works with a channel handle.
