Perchi Matrix vs LaMetric TIME: $199.99 with speakers, or ₹4,499 with an open API?
LaMetric TIME ($199.99; about ₹30,000 imported) is the benchmark: a fixed 37x8 white display with an 8x8 colour icon, two 2 W speakers, a phone app and a cloud account. Perchi Matrix (₹4,499) is silent, built in 4 sizes, pairs from a browser and documents its API. LaMetric wins on audio and depth; Perchi Matrix on price and openness.

What LaMetric TIME is, and what buyers complain about
LaMetric TIME, from Smart Atoms, has been the benchmark connected clock for a decade. The store sells one model (there is no separate "TIME 2"; the current listing is the 2022+ version) at $199.99. The display is 37x8 white pixels with an 8x8 colour icon on the left, in a 20.1 x 6.1 x 3.6 cm body, with two 2 W stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm output, Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and an ambient light sensor. Five built-in apps (clock, weather, radio, timer, stopwatch) sit beside the LaMetric Market, which claims thousands of clockfaces and hosts third-party apps, including subscriber counters for YouTube (about 1,040 installs), Instagram and TikTok.
Amazon.com shows 4.1 stars from 665 ratings. The review summary praises the quality and the retro pixel look, and reports several customers describing it as low-quality and overpriced, with issues around Wi-Fi connectivity, app functionality and setup complexity; an independent review describes Wi-Fi that keeps dropping on a working home network. The warranty is one year, two in the EU.
What Perchi Matrix is
Perchi Matrix (₹4,499 including GST) is a connected LED desk display: 24x8 full-colour pixels at launch, driven by an ESP32-S3 running Perchi OS, with 70+ apps for creator counts, sales, deploys, calendars, weather and Home Assistant. It pairs from a browser in under a minute, has a REST API, webhooks, an MCP server for AI assistants and an SDK and CLI, and an authenticated AWTRIX-3-compatible local API with MQTT and Home Assistant discovery; see Developers. Updates are signed with automatic rollback. The larger sizes run the same firmware and open later on the waitlist.
Sound, radio and the bedside use case
This is where LaMetric wins outright. Two speakers turn it into an alarm clock, an internet radio and a Spotify Connect target, and many owners buy it for the bedside rather than the desk. Perchi Matrix has no speaker and no buzzer; every celebration is an animation. If you want to hear your display, LaMetric is the one to buy, and a Home Assistant automation is the only way to make Perchi Matrix trigger a sound elsewhere.
Openness: API, MQTT and what happens without the cloud
LaMetric has a real local API (an API key per device, HTTPS on port 4343) and a Home Assistant core integration that polls it locally, which is more than most of this category offers. Its developer portal, though, sits behind a sign-up, and setup and Market apps run through the LaMetric account.
Perchi Matrix documents its REST API publicly, ships webhooks with 15 provider presets, an MCP server and an SDK and CLI, and its local API speaks the AWTRIX 3 dialect with bearer, Basic or HMAC-signed authentication, so existing AWTRIX and Node-RED flows work. If our servers are ever unreachable, the local API and MQTT keep working on your LAN and the clock, timers and cached apps keep running; firmware updates are signed, so nothing unsigned can be pushed to your display. Security has the details.
Price in India
LaMetric TIME has no official Indian channel. The Amazon.in importer listing has been tracked at ₹30,009, with a recorded range from ₹18,589 to ₹49,933, and duty and support are the importer's. Perchi Matrix is ₹4,499 including GST (MRP ₹4,999), sold direct with a GST invoice, a 12-month warranty serviced in India and 14-day returns; see Pricing.
When Perchi Matrix is not the right fit
If the display must make a sound, buy LaMetric; Perchi Matrix never will. If you want a bedside alarm clock with radio, the same. If a deep third-party app market matters more than Razorpay, Shopify or GitHub apps, LaMetric's Market is older and larger than ours. Perchi Matrix is the right fit for a silent, colourful, API-first desk display bought in India.
Questions about Perchi Matrix vs LaMetric TIME
Does LaMetric need a subscription?
No. LaMetric TIME is a one-time purchase and Market apps are free; it does need a LaMetric cloud account and the phone app for setup. Perchi Matrix has no subscription either and no account wall before pairing.
Does LaMetric TIME work with Home Assistant?
Yes. Home Assistant has a core LaMetric integration that polls the device locally every 30 seconds, onboarded through cloud OAuth or a manual device API key. Perchi Matrix appears through MQTT discovery in bearer mode with no account involved.
Is the LaMetric TIME display colour?
Only the 8x8 icon on the left is colour; the 37x8 text area is white. Every one of Perchi Matrix's pixels is full-colour RGB, which is why gradients, rainbow text and coloured celebration effects work on it.
Does LaMetric TIME work without its cloud account?
Partly. The clock keeps working, and the local API works with a per-device API key, but setup and Market apps go through the LaMetric account and cloud. Perchi Matrix keeps its clock, timers, cached apps, local API and MQTT working on your LAN without our servers.
Can Perchi Matrix play radio or sound like LaMetric?
No. Perchi Matrix has no speaker or buzzer; it is silent by design, and celebrations are animations. If you need sound, LaMetric TIME is the right device, or route a Perchi Matrix event to a speaker through Home Assistant.
Which is cheaper, LaMetric TIME or Perchi Matrix?
Perchi Matrix, by about six times in India: ₹4,499 including GST against an Amazon.in import tracked at ₹30,009. In the US the gap is smaller but LaMetric TIME at $199.99 is still the more expensive device.
