Focus timer on your desk

The Focus timer app is a pomodoro timer on an LED matrix: Perchi Matrix counts down a focus session of 25 minutes by default (1 to 180), drawn by the device so it keeps running offline; save the app again to start the next session. Breaks are stored but not sequenced yet, so the display shows the focus countdown only.

What it shows

What does the Focus timer app show?

A visual pomodoro timer for the LED matrix: a 25-minute focus session by default, counted on the device. Save again to restart.

The Focus timer counts down a focus session on the display: 25 minutes by default, any length from 1 to 180 minutes, drawn in the tiny font so minutes and seconds fit at 24x8 in the pink the app ships with. The device does the counting, so the session survives a dropped connection, and saving the app again starts the next one.

The settings hold a short break (5 minutes), a long break (15) and the number of sessions before it (4), but nothing sequences those phases yet: the display shows the focus countdown only, the break settings are labelled not used yet in the form, and the phase output stays empty. We would rather say that here than sell a break cycle that does not run.

On Perchi there is no need for this app: Phone Nap is the focus timer, and it starts when your phone rests on Perchi's back, pauses when the phone leaves and keeps a record of every block. The LED version is for a desk that wants a big, silent timer with no phone involved at all.

How it connects

What do you need to connect Focus timer?

No account needed. Nothing. A length in minutes.

No sign-in, no key, no account with the provider. It is one of the 37 apps in the no-account list, so it works from the minute the display is paired.

Speed

How fast does Focus timer update?

Continuous, on the device: the remaining time is redrawn every second without a server. Nothing to poll, nothing to go stale, nothing lost if the internet drops mid-session.

Style

How does Focus timer look on the matrix?

Minutes and seconds in the tiny font at 24x8, in the pink the app ships with or any colour, gradient or rainbow you set. The end of the session can play any of the 14 effects with a short text; a threshold can turn the last 5 minutes red.

The preview at the top of this page is the default Focus timer scene on a 24x8 Perchi Matrix, reading 9:59. The apps page explains how freshness badges work, and the Perchi Matrix page lists every font, colour and effect in the style panel.

On Perchi

What does Perchi do with Focus timer?

Perchi does not use this app: Phone Nap is its focus timer, started by resting your phone on it, with a visible project and a progress ring around the face. The Focus timer is the Perchi Matrix version for a desk without the phone rule.

This app is listed for Perchi Matrix only. Perchi runs the same app library through a face-and-card layout on its 128x64 OLED, and where it has a built-in feature for the job, the store says so instead of listing the app twice. See which real events Perchi celebrates and how Phone Nap works.

Setup

Set up Focus timer in three steps

Everything happens in the web dashboard from any browser; there is no app to install on your phone and no account wall before the first pixel.

  1. STEP 1

    Install Focus timer

From the no-account list; it starts counting from the default 25 minutes when installed.

  2. STEP 2

    Set the length

1 to 180 minutes, or an exact duration in seconds under advanced.

  3. STEP 3

    Save to start each session

Saving restarts the countdown; bind the display's button to send an event if you want a reminder to save.

Honest limits

Where does Focus timer stop?

Questions about Focus timer

Specific to this app. The general questions (do I need an app, does it work offline, what does a reservation cost) live on the pages that own them.

Is there a pomodoro timer for an LED matrix?

Yes: the Focus timer app on Perchi Matrix counts down a focus session of 25 minutes by default (1 to 180) in the tiny font that fits minutes and seconds on 24x8, on the device, with no account and no phone. Breaks are not sequenced yet, so it is the focus countdown only.

Does the focus timer run breaks automatically?

Not yet. The break lengths and cycle count are stored, but no phase sequence exists in the display engine today, so after the focus countdown the display waits for you to save the app again. The settings form labels the break fields not used yet.

Can I set a 50-minute focus session?

Yes. Any length from 1 to 180 minutes works, or an exact number of seconds in the advanced setting, so 50/10 and 90-minute sessions are one field away.

Does the LED pomodoro timer beep?

No. Perchi Matrix has no speaker; the end of a session can play a pixel effect such as a flash or fireworks, and the display goes back to the playlist. Quiet by design, for shared rooms.

How is the focus timer different from Phone Nap on Perchi?

The Focus timer is a countdown you start by saving; Phone Nap is Perchi's own focus block that starts when your phone rests on it, pauses when you lift the phone, grows a visible project and keeps streaks and report cards. If the phone is the problem, Perchi is the answer; if you want a big silent timer on the wall, the Focus timer is.
